BY: EBBEN BERENSTEIN The beloved Kutztown Strand has been closed for many months, following the death of the previous owner Paul Angstadt. With the KCP’s purchase of the building finalized, plans to renovate and reopen are underway. This year through a capstone course called The Agency Experience, 8 public relations majors at Kutztown University had the unique opportunity to become key players in the journey of The Strand.

BY: JAKE MAYSON The Kutztown Strand has weathered two pandemics and a whole lot more over the past 110 years. One thing has always stayed consistent, the sense of community and tradition. It seems that everyone who’s been connected with Kutztown has a story about this cornerstone of our community.

BY: EVAN SANTOS We spoke about Herman’s Playhouse in the last blog. We know that it was used for more than just the early films of the 1900s and we will dive deeper into that in a future blog. It was 1927 when the Playhouse became the Strand as we know it today and the building became more exclusive to movies.

BY: EVAN SANTOS What comes to mind when you think of a Playhouse? Many might think of a Little Tikes children’s playhouse setup. For the older generation, they might mention the Saturday morning CBS show, Pee Wee’s Playhouse, which came from the 1985 film Pee Wee’s Big Adventure.

BY: JESSICA PLANTE Whether we know it or not, a rich sense of place and history lives in the clothes we wear, the food we make, the movies we watch, and the other leisurely activities we do to pass our time. It’s quite interesting to think that most aspects of our culture are heavily influenced by ever-changing beliefs and ideals shaped by current events and news.
